Yes,
while every one of us should absolutely be “presumed innocent until we’re
proven guilty,” that clearly applies where one is accused of perpetrating a
crime and where the consequences could result in a severe punishment. We should
obviously avoid anyone ever suffering from such an adverse outcome unless we
are absolutely sure through unequivocal evidence and the testimony of reliable
witnesses that the person involved is guilty “beyond reasonable doubt” of the
accusation rendered. But in the case of considering employing someone for a
specific job, especially one as critically important as a Justice of the U.S.
Supreme Court, then even if the slightest serious questions surface about his or
her trustworthiness, integrity or honor then the better part of wisdom is to
pass on that candidate, particularly when there are so many others available
that can do the job as well or even possibly better. Why settle, why take the
risk given the serious issues that have arisen with respect to the past
behavior of Brett Kavanaugh?
